A bathroom floor, whether it’s your own bathroom or not, is not a desirable place to be. However, there can be valuable life lessons learned when we are there.

Recently while traveling hundreds of miles from home, I was in a gas station convenience store restroom where I totally passed out and found myself lying in the floor! I had absolutely no control over the situation and landed straight back on the floor hitting my head. Thankfully I was not seriously hurt.

But that experience caused me to reflect on my times that I have been in bathroom floors! Some have been blessed moments nurturing my family like kneeling by the bathtub bathing my children or grandchildren; others have been agonizing occasions of sickness when I’ve been on my knees hugging the toilet bowl losing my stomach contents due to pregnancy, stomach viruses or a bout of nerves; still others times I’ve fallen to to floor in anguish crying out to the Lord in my grief; and then the many necessary times I’ve been on my knees cleaning the bathroom floors! Varied times & reasons to be on those floors, but nothing prepared me for that cold, probably not the cleanest, hard bathroom floor in Wyoming that I found myself waking up on with my terrified little granddaughter beside me.

The scary situation of passing out really emphasized how helpless I was at that moment. But it also caused me to contemplate just how little control I have over my life as a whole and how much I rely on God to be there for me, guiding me, supporting me, comforting me, and loving me – through it all – whether I’m conscious or not! Unfortunately even when I’m not unconscious physically, I’m often unaware of His presence and provision in my life.

Ending up lying in that gas station bathroom floor has at least made me stop and be reminded of God’s presence and care in my life…in times of nurturing, in times of agony, in moments of sickness and pain, during times of completing mundane chores…in ALL times He’s been there.

Regardless of our circumstances, God is there with us…in our grief, in our pain, in our successes, in our moments of joy…He’s there whether we take time to realize it or not and I’m so thankful He is!

Take a moment today and reflect on God’s constant presence in your life. Thank Him for His blessings, His love, His comfort, His care no matter what you’re facing today!
