The first year after my husband died I continued to attend church, I read scripture and devotionals, I prayed, and I listened to a mountain of Christian music. But with my numbness and my foggy brain, I often felt I couldn’t comprehend or concentrate on what I read or heard. I felt like I was constantly talking to God but not praying to the depth and feeling the closeness I so desperately needed. Actually the music was my primary source of spiritual nourishment as I sought comfort from my relationship with God.
Over time I eventually made progress back to spiritual stability. It was not instantaneous nor was it exactly like it was before I became a widow. In fact, I have developed a stronger relationship with the Lord because of my circumstances and my dependence on Him.
The Spiritual Care guide above lists very practical ways to develop and/or strengthen your spiritual health.
God is waiting with open arms to comfort you and guide you as you keep stepping forward on the widows’ walk.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
I will never leave you and I will never forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:8
…I am with you…I am your God, I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you…Isaiah 41:10
