Even while we grieve and adjust to lives without our husbands, we still continue to face other losses in our lives. This is referred to as compounded grief.

Since my husband’s death, I have experienced the deaths of my parents, my in-laws, many close family members and dear friends. Facing each one by myself has been so difficult. I miss my husband’s presence- his reassurance, his listening ear, his arms holding me, and his never wavering loving support.

It’s not just deaths that complicate our grief. It may be financial issues, job situations, serious health conditions for yourself or others, loss of possessions, changes in your lifestyle and/or independence, or any number of losses that affect your life. Every type of loss causes grief of some sort.

Facing major losses and changes in our lives shines a glaring spotlight on the void in our lives that we are constantly confronted with: our primary supporter and comforter is no longer by our side.

Thankfully there is One who is always there for us in our heartaches and needs. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in times of trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

I am so thankful for God’s presence in my life as I face the losses that come my way. I couldn’t endure them otherwise!

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
