Sometimes we can foresee situations, occasions, or dates on the calendar that will cause us to grieve deeply. But more likely we are confronted with unexpected things that will trigger heartache, tears, and sorrow.
*Grocery shopping & seeing your husband’s favorite food on the shelf.
*Sitting in church with a couple sitting near you and the man places his arm around his wife.
*An empty chair at the table at family gatherings.
*Attending an event and realizing you’re the only one there that’s not part of a couple.
*Scrolling through social media and seeing a wedding anniversary post for a couple celebrating more years together than you were allotted with your husband.
All of these instances plus thousands more can come out of nowhere blindsiding us!
These unexpected bouts of grief can make us (and others) feel like we are not recovering well, but that is not the truth. We lost a huge part of our lives and everything about our lives has been changed. That’s a lot to deal with! Some days/moments will be good ones. Others, not so much. That’s all normal. Allow yourself grace in your grief recovery. God is with you through it all.
